Waking Ned Devine 1998
Maybe I’m too generous to this one because it meant a lot to me as a kid (parents loved it) but it truly had me chortling and thinking about the power of community.
Also I think Pig Finn informed my desire to smell good as much as possible, which is socially positive (people like it when you smell good) and environmentally negative (I shower too much), so take that as you will.
Overall it’s just a joyful movie to watch, so be happppppy with some Irish folks.

Look, it got a bit much at times in terms of how the men treat the female lead, but uhhhh wow. It was funny, hit the emotional beats, filled out the characters well. It’s a movie well worth watching, and one that certainly portended the kind of career Wes Anderson would have.
