This felt like it was conceived and written to be the end of the franchise with Stu Macher returning as the killer, they even teased it multiple times in the movie. Then about halfway through they seemed to change their minds or find out they couldn't make that work so they scrapped the second half of the movie and panic rewrote it with new killer(s) and didn't really bother to make sure it worked thematically or narratively. EASILY the worst of the killer reveals/motives of the series, but the overall movie up to that point and some even around it still mostly works.

Scream 2022
A little overcomplicated and long in the tooth, but a very good mix of legacy and new while also properly (I'm looking at you Scream 4) being meta about the new age we're in and the rule changes that have to come.
Also my favorite Meta of the franchise is Dewey only being (slightly) effective when he's no longer a cop. Because cops are ineffective.

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare 1991
This was by far the most batshit, unreal, non-sensical movie of the series....and I loved it. There was a genuinely fantastic story buried in it somewhere that I wish we had gotten, but having not, and with knowing not to take the movie too seriously, this was a lot of fun.
