Silly and beautiful and fun for ME! It was like Desk Set (1957) and 30 Rock had a nice little cinematic baby starring an extraordinary lineup of great actors.

I am kind of surprised this has so many bad reviews, I thought it was really cute. At over 90 years old it’s delightfully funny and provocative, being a pre-Code production. It’s almost a real version of the fictional Dark Windows script from Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard. I love the cab driver who surreptitiously communicates with Ginger Rogers’s character to help her minimize interaction with a lecherous employer, and then continued to defend her as the film progresses. One of many goofy but likable little side characters who fleshed out this short and sweet movie.
One of the most outrageous films I have ever seen. Certainly an instant cult classic. Death Becomes Her (1992) for the 21st century with an infusion of David Cronenberg, John Carpenter, and Stanley Kubrick. Light spoilers follow.
