The Brutalist 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
To be honest, the overture was worth the price of admission. The whole piece has a feel of ambition and swinging for the fences that's really bracing- respect to Corbet to going for it.
And yeah, the first half got its hooks in me despite me being pretty me being deadened to depictions of WW2 at this point. Before the intermission, this movie does so well by not depicting it- you just look at Adrian Brody and how fucked up…

Rio Bravo is in many ways a perfect movie but, I now realise, it’s undeniably deficient in the ‘having-Robert-Mitchum-in-it’ department.
El Dorado addresses this, continues Hawks' collaboration with a baby James Caan and generally delivers the goods in a Western that is supremely my-shit. And yeah, Mitchum! One of the most epic heels in cinema history and holy shit is it nice to see him play a good guy that you don’t want to fuck with.

Vibe and setting is exquisite. Like the Seargent York vibes at the beginning.
Just a lot of shit that ultimately goes nowhere (Strawberry, Lonnie); really feels like the story should be told from Lexi's perspective.
Loved Florida Project's ending, but don't think the equivalent beat is earned here.
