  i really wanted to like this film more than i did 

  i think the folk and fairy tale references were genius: 

  sue as the maiden, elizabeth and sue as the mother (they both birthed beings) and elizabeth as the crone. 

  it follows the themes of most folk and fairy tales in that premature or delayed transition to the next feminine stage is unnatural and must be punished. 

  the camera, the mirror, the lights, and the snow globe were allusions to…
