Anti-communist propaganda? Yes. Extreme Orientalism? Yes. Mild racism? Yes. Is this still going to be rated a five stars? Yes!
Annie (1982) and Matilda (1996) were the movies I would constantly rewatch when I was younger, and I don’t have the heart to rate this one less than 5 stars. Those are the 5 stars my 8-year-old self would give it, knowing I wanted to be whisked away into a perfect life like that little red head girl.
I will re-watch it in the summer and write an essay (maybe even make a little video essay) about it. There’s just so much to dissect!

- The first person perspective of the camera is simply the best way to capture the fullest potential of the story.
