I have enjoyed most of PWSA's films, even before learning about vulgar auteurism, but man, this might be one of his worst. I sincerely wish I could have enjoyed it as much as the other PWSA defenders. Visually, it's more interesting than his previous feature, Monster Hunter, but just because the Hollywood blockbuster landscape is dire doesn’t mean this film gets elevated by a few interesting images alone especially when it’s so weak from both a character and plot perspective.…

    ★★★★

Great animation and art style, coupled with excellent fight sequences, but most importantly, it excels at being heartfelt(loved the dynamic between Ne Zha and Ao Bing) and doesn’t let exposition bog down the film's pace, unlike much of the recent Chinese epic mythology media I’ve been consuming. Feels bad that I’m late to the party and geniunely wish India could make something of this level with the Ramayana or Mahabaratha.

The violence while brutal felt like it was done for the sake of shock value and somehow the filmmaking style…
