This was both impressive and underwhelming. Ending was strong. Doesn't hold up to other adaptations, however

Chime 2024
Once again (see my review for Pulse), Kiyoshi K. has opened my eyes to the possibility of a living use of space in film, beyond mere aesthetics, an appreciation that is being extended to the weaving of space with rhythm and speed, that is, with time.
I am becoming obsessed with his films. It feels like discovering a whole new language, or a very old one buried in one's memory
This is a film about metallic surfaces and cold, metallic…

The Endless 2017
To start with, it has this very cringy student film aesthetic, but it gets better if you stick through it. The second half of the film is surprisingly strong, and the characters grow on you. It's a very sincere film about the tedium of inescapable repetition, and a gnostic film about the demiurgic forces that feed on our pain. It's the sincerity of the film that wins you over in the end, although I don't think there's anything really mindblowing here
