  Completely brilliant -- a well-oiled, well-funded machine facilitates an obvious genius to work technical marvels on a massive scale (i.e. the sort of feeling u get watching the best hitchcock or spielberg films). Not a misspent shot in the whole thing -- every little detail accumulates / points towards another development. Funny and gripping in equal measure; "You'll pay for the whole seat but only need the edge of it" cinema. Amazing this is only one film. stick this on tonight!!

  First Bresson that has really resonated w me , maybe cause (to shoehorn in one of the most shoehorned-in cinema quotes of all time) these weren't just necessary images but beautiful and rich ones as well (rather than the bressonian 50s mode which a philistine like me, or bressons most fervent advocates, might describe as deliberately drab.
