Another pitch-perfect horror piece from the 80s. In my opinion, it's really Clare Higgins that carries this movie! Masterful art direction, story craft, photography. Great gross-out factor and gothic atmosphere.

Phantasm 1979
I'm so glad that I decided to revisit this movie, which I had not seen since I was a kid. There are films that, upon rewatching, don't hold up in quite the same way we remember them affecting us back in the day. Not so with Phantasm. I'm obsessed with its aesthetics, with the mood that it creates and holds over its 1-1/2 hours. The imagery that I recalled is still every bit as weird, creepy, and bold as it ever was.
