Did some things well, did most things not well. Timothée somehow transcends typecasting by playing a range of roles but always being a two-dimensional, contrarian, stick-in-the-mud asshole. The movie excluded any substance behind Bob's life and artistic motivation, including how or why he did pretty much anything. It totally glossed over any semblance of early struggle, vaulting him immediately from penniless traveler to having his own place and being signed to a label.
