I tried to introduce my children to the series two and a half years back but they weren't in the right mood, maybe still too young.

My son recently finished reading the Hobbit, which he loved! So here we are again. Extended Editions - half a film at a time.

We finished Fellowship and they both loved it!

    ★★★★½

    Refreshingly original and unique.
It has that trademark Bong strangeness, odd performances, unpredictable plot progression, eclectic mix of tone and genres. I loved every moment.
It was satirical and very, very comedic, during the dinner scene I cried with laughter.
The performances are strong, Ruffalo and Collette are hilarious as egotistical buffoon politicians. Naomi Ackie is very good and Robert Pattinson really impresses. He plays different versions of the same character, what he does with his voice and mannerisms is incredible.
It's long but for a film like this, I'll take it!

    Pointless. Flat. Garish as fuck.

It looks unfinished. The brightly coloured Pinocchio doesn't always blend into the setting, doesn't appear to interact with anyone or anything. Similarly, Tom Hanks was clearly acting in a void at times. Again, not interacting with anything.
Absolute worst visual was the escape from Monstro, atrocious.

Margaret Lockwood and James Mason play right mean bastards and I love it. They work so well in these types of roles.
Phyllis Calvert and Stewart Granger also do good enough jobs but their characters just aren't as interesting.
It appears that this film is quite divisive but I for one had a great time throughout.
