  Don’t tell me that this assembly of set pieces and chase sequences is some kind of return to form. They want to be First Contact so bad it’s not funny, don’t give them credit for being so lazy and complacent that it winds up failing at that so badly that it feels like the opposite. Also if people in 1998 thought that all this tech was getting to be too much, man oh man. Kinda gutless in terms of having mystery…

  “It’s an officer’s club.”

  Why did they make Hammond such a dick? Love the Hornblower/Bush dynamic though. Nice intrigue, somehow missing the obstinate force for Horatio to struggle against. Definitely feels like they forgot the formula of these things but still quite enjoyable.

  Little Jamie needs to fly.

  So I went through a real phase with this movie after my high school English teacher showed it to my class. There’s something to showing Americans movies about events that America wasn’t involved in but I think the teacher just wanted to show us a movie he liked. Anyway for years afterward I was always talking this movie up as a kind of hipster thing, I like this Steven Spielberg movie that nobody else has.…
