This film made me very interested in Wes Anderson’s other work, as this one was said to be a classic Wes Anderson film. This film was super fun and lighthearted with many jokes to punctuate the plot. The mise-en-scene was beautiful with the warm tones and animation aspect. I was super intrigued in learning more about the creation process around it, it reminded me of Coraline by Henry Selick which is one of my all time favorite films.

The interworkings of a family drama were laid bare in this film. Two families were shown within the film connected through two sisters. Throughout the film it was interesting seeing the cultural norms of a different part of the world, for example, the carnival tradition and the racial discrimination and separation of those who had an Indian background. This film made accessible areas of nature and nature's behaviors that many had never seen before. Some shots specifically that come to mind include the camera positioned beneath the mountain lion, facing upward as the cat soars over the camera, another includes side shots of the prairie dogs' underground habitat. These shots create awe in the audience, allowing the audience to see wildlife in settings that were never before discovered.

With Dogme 95 comes the rawness of moments whether they be joyful or hold a more negative connotation. This film certainly could not be called anything close to happy... which is outwardly displayed in the irony of the title. At the beginning of the film, it is discovered that a German family is coming together to celebrate the 60th birthday of the father of the main characters. As the movie progresses the ugly truth of the family's past unfolds. It…
