The book is quite good. I cannot say the same for the movie. This is precisely why literature cannot be adapted 1:1 for the screen. The theatrics of literature translate well in the mind of the reader as we actively adapt the story to resonate with us. Baby Reindeer shows exactly how to approach a radically subjective and sensitive topic without making a monolith out of its narrative by staying true to Donny's experience. Through Donny's experience of rape, stalking, and understanding sexuality, a very dimensional character is represented that isn't flattened or extended by making generalizations about everyone's experience of rape, stalking, or assault (an unfortunate misstep I have seen in so many pieces of media about victimhood).
