Tone of the movie felt too unserious, satirical but not in the right way. Shallow characters and cartoony villains with no motivations, no purpose other than being caricatures.

Phantom of the Paradise 1974
A bit shallow on the character side with one dimensional protagonists, some ideas just brushed over when they could have really been interesting, Winslow and phoenix relationship, phoenix’s development. Motivations maybe too simple.
Not sure I liked the burlesque comedy too much, felt out of place
