All We Imagine as Light 2024
Although I love how Satyajit Ray manages to find a kind of romanticized beauty in the worlds of his films, there's nothing quite like the realism with which this movie depicts contemporary Mumbai, all the while retaining an almost mystical sense of curiosity. Almost every shot is lit under the city's harsh artificial lights, and the movie manages to squeeze every ounce of beauty and wonder from it. It's so focused on the texture and details of the environment that you feel that much closer to the characters.

Licorice Pizza 2021
This is like Punch Drunk Love but with the pacing of Phantom Thread, and they're both my favourite pta films so this was a slam dunk for me. The pacing is the thing holding it back, but I've come to adore it about Phantom thread; it's like a constant back and forth rythm that (for phantom thread at least) made each subsequent viewing more enriching, so can't wait to revisit this one
