Two knockout absolute peak movie stars types as top billing? In a Grisham/LeCarré spy thriller? Where the chat to action ratio is like 90:10? All of it under 1h30?
This is the return of the 1993 middlebrow action flick that I have been crying for, like Soderbergh made this specifically for me.
Perfect date movie too.
There is a scene in this, when Fernanda Torres talks in a serious "you're old enough to be in these conversations" tone to two of her elder kids, and suddenly the two younger ones burst into the room and her demeanor, face, manner of speak change on a dime.
The movie is already superb in a lot of other aspects (perfect cast, very sneaky direction in how it builds tension, soundtrack, Torres' outfits(!!!)), but it's the flawless capturing of these subtle notes of living as a family that bring this thing over the top.
Incredible movie.
the range of outloud laughs / beaming smiles / pit in your stomach that this film generates in you is as wide as I've seen in a long, long time
