  Kind of an unbelievable movie in ways I never could’ve anticipated on a blind watch. Front half works with all the Kiyoshi Kurosawa-isms I love and am familiar with and then the midway point takes an extreme and confident nosedive into a completely different pool that I was not on board at all, then as I thought things were wrapping up it went on for another hour and kinda won me back. Might be the most challenging of his works…
