A Streetcar Named Desire 1951
Vivien Leigh originated the term "tour-de-force" during her stint as Blanche DuBois. I've never seen an actor portray a character with such intensity. Tennessee Williams was a vessel for God while writing this play. Not a single supporting performance felt lacking. Every character is well-rounded and three-dimensional. The marriage of film and theater is one for the ages. Forget the Oscar, Elia Kazan should have been awarded a Nobel prize of some sort.

A Streetcar Named Desire 1951
I picked up on a number of discrepancies and nuances between the book and the film adaptation as we were analysing the latter in class. I also realized that my previous criteria based on which I was shaping my opinions on the film are blatantly flawed - judging the characters on a likeability spectrum in inherently wrong and degrading, as is dismissing the film as "problematic" due to its tendency towards controversy when it comes to the themes. ++ Vivien Leigh's acting in the confrontation scene with Mitch makes for the best acting I've ever seen, probably.
