I love the games this movie is based on dearly, but they are not perfect by any means. This movie seems to combine all of the games’ worst aspects into one insanity inducing experience. Most egregious was its reflecting of how the games often do not treat any of the ancient folklore it’s basing its story on with nearly enough accuracy. I hadn’t seen a Ghibli movie in quite some years. I knew it would be good, but I didn’t expect it to move me the way it did. A truly unique fairytale that deals with a lot of complex and raw subject matter while not being specifically about one thing or the other, and you as the viewer can take to heart what speaks to you.
