I remember seeing this in theaters back when it came out in 2010 and as a kid, I was all about it (as I was with most CG animated films at the time). However when rewatching, I noticed so much more about why this stood out from the pack.

The world is so well fleshed out and is animated beautifully. There are so many shots in here that are worth framing. Also the dynamic between Hiccup & Toothless is so enjoyable,…

While it’s predecessor is undoubtedly more iconic, I felt that this sequel was more narratively dense and had more to say with a similar runtime. Boris Karloff gives a much more layered performance here and Dr. Pretorius is a fantastic character that reflects Henry’s egotistical mania from the original film right back at him.

Not only that, but the scale is larger and that’s perfectly captured through the visuals. The lighting and angles are more dramatic and the tracking shots show just how BIG this movie is.

Might be one of, if not the most supremely crafted Classic Monsters film.

Holy shit. New favorite rom-com? Movie of the year?? Oh my god.

Zelda Williams kicked ASS with this one in delivering a creepy, stylish, and funny take on the Frankenstein formula. Kathryn Newton delivered her best performance yet and Cole Sprouse brought so much personality to The Creature with very little dialogue. Plus, the soundtrack rules. This one will be in my rotation from now on.
