  The Ninth Gate 1999

  I’ve had a fondness for The Ninth Gate since its release, and every time I revisit it, that only deepens. Devil movies were very much in style in the late 90s, but unlike Stigmata or the breathless insanity of End of Days, this movie takes its time to focus on the banality of devil worship, especially as it pertains to rare book collecting. Wojciech Kilar’s score is truly excellent and wonderfully peculiar which pairs well with the film’s dark, dry sense of humor.

  Ghost 1990

  ★★★★ Rewatched 28 Feb 2025

  Ghost is goofy and melodramatic, but its emotional core is so honest. Patrick and Demi are as iconic as they are sweet, and Whoopi nails every scene as a character who could have easily been written off as a cliche in a lesser screenplay.

  I don’t think I’ll ever recover from watching a Pikachu clone slapping the real Pikachu across the face for nearly 20 uncut seconds until both of them are openly weeping. What a film.

  It’s not perfect, but I dug a lot about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It had some amazing visuals, a great score, one of my favorite villainous arcs thus far in the MCU, and it’s just nice to have Sam Raimi back.
