The Last Waltz's star-studded cast has certainly inflated this just-decent concert film's reputation. Pretty bog standard rockumentary photography from Scorsese and Chapman, unfortunately. The interview segments are both disruptive of the pacing and impressively uninformative. Their drug-addled inarticulacy dispels some of the illusion of their genius. Still, an undeniably fun show featuring some classic songs; Robertson is evidently having the time of his life. Young, Mitchell, and the ensemble performance of "I Shall Be Released" are obvious highlights.
