    Prince of Darkness

    Interesting to see cosmic horror motifs placed within a religious context. Taking the old, mysterious gods of Lovecraft and replacing them with the more familiar spiritual actors of Christianity, provides this film with--dare-I-say--a more interesting first half than the sort of standard, predictable Carpenter horror finale we get. It seems like theres a lot of horror to be found in these physicists, who are already more predisposed to accepting the incomprehensibility of reality, encountering something even more incomprehensible, which I feel is largely unmined by Carpenter in this film.

    There's a part in this movie where someone at a dinner party mentions to Laszlo and Harrison a short story about an infinite library. The scene takes place in 1950, the story he is referring to is Borges' "The Library of Babel", which was published in 1941.
