Was a little disappointed that this wasn’t in Steve McQueen’s usual raw and hard-hitting style, but nonetheless it was pretty effective. There’s an Oscar bait malaise over the film and it’s a bit corny (the British kind) and banal where you might think Joe Wright made this. However, McQueen’s prowess shines through in the latter half when he’s introducing his young protagonist to all the evils of the human race.

Past Lives 2023
Was really expecting a lot more from this. Greta Lee gives a very good and subtle performance, but is not given a whole lot to play with. There’s not much bursting off the screen. The dialogue is overly playwright-y and paced glacially. Just plain and pretty boring.
The Hae Sung character is pretty psychotic and corny af. Really took me out of it. If the character was given a couple ounces of complexity, charm, or personality, maybe I could have been invested in his story. I could not bring myself to care.
