  Been a long time since I’ve seen this one. Not sure if the book explores the themes in the same way or is just a mystery, but I love how Fincher emphasises a real comic disdain for America, its values and its media through the story.

  The disaster movie part of it might go on a little too long, but this is an incredible blockbuster. It grips you the moment it transports you back, with a keen eye on the rapidly changing world of the early 20th century.

  The laughable search for a thief on a sinking ship mirrors the old aristocratic class’ blindness to the whole world leaving them behind to ‘new money’, but of course that doesn’t mean the rich and jealous can’t cause great harm.

  Great stuff.
