Still the Water 2014
I’ve probably thought about this film every day since I first saw it.
It hit me at the right time; I was missing Okinawa and the salt-filled air and the banana trees and those plants whose leaves are so paper thin that they’ll cut you if you get caught in them in the wind.
This film captures a Ryukyuan way of life that I haven’t seen on screen before. It’s warm and gentle and we hold on to each other.…Translated from by

what does anora dream about? what does she think about while vanya plays his little video games? what about her past experiences made her believe that there was any viable future with him? why do i come away from this, 2 hours later, knowing nothing about a woman who baker wants to show as “empowered?”
