  Tsai, in a 2004 interview with Reichert and Syngle: "The film is really not just about the theater. It's also a way of expressing feelings or love. Chen Shiang-chyi is so old-fashioned. The way she expresses her love is so subtle, so unique. She gives herself, just like the old theater accepts everyone, both of which I think are qualities that are disappearing."
