Monkey Man 2024
I’m a sucker for a film that seethes with proletariat anger, and for one that knows how to play with chaos and desperation. The formal obligation of a personal grudge is present, but it’s not hard to discern that we’re kicking ass and spilling blood on behalf of all the common people stepped on by the powerful few, not just the one we keep seeing in our obligatory flashbacks.

In my 20s, the execution and themes awed me. At this point in my life they shame me a little, but it instills more or less the same drive to be better than I am both creatively and as a person.
First time seeing this in theaters and god it’s amazing to sense how your favorite movie is being experienced by a large crowd. Especially among the lot who titter and even laugh out loud at the early developments, only to realize they were being set up to be chastened by the story that unfolds.
