  “The Wards ain’t full of Jason’s. What you found is quiet in a world full of thunder. I ain’t got no choice but to listen to it. You do.”

  I can’t say I loved this movie. Just a little too traumatic for me, but it was so beautifully shot. 
  Marti was the highlight. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a character like I do hers. Her words, her appearance, her spirit— just so loving, vibrant, and beautiful. She deserved so much more.

  I didn’t cry— but the lump in my throat sure did grow by the end. I felt it. For good reason.

  This movie was celebratory for me. A brown-skinned black woman haunted by societal expectations and her lost dreams. Her even darker-skinned daughter wanting more than anything to live fully and in her truth. Both freed by the end.
