  so many interesting concepts and fun ideas, but the whole thing never congeals and wastes it potential on generic ground. robert pattinson does a good job pulling double duty and carrying the narrative weight of the whole thing, but he (and the rest of the cast) should have taken a note from toni collette who devours every scene she is in with a manic and silly energy.

  it drags for some stretches (like how long was she holding the rope with her teeth???) and the frantic mishmash of ideas ultimately make the resolution a little underwhelming.

  spent the first half gleefully grinning, and the second half increasingly engulfed by a deep sense of morbid realism and bitterness at the way wealth allows individuals to use other people as disposable playthings. 

  great movie! 

  i have had a soft spot for sean baker since Tangerine, and Anora is another excellent showcase of his ability to plunge the viewer into a complex world without needing tedious exposition or monologues. i see a critique that this movie doesn't fully flesh Ani out…
