    i like the religious subtext and symbolism (thelma meaning "will" or "desire" from the greek thelēma, snake representing temptation, thelma reviving the dead bird to showcase healing, etc...), but these positives ultimately fall flat due to the movie's slow pacing and attempts to tackle too many themes at once. as a result, it turns into "lesbian fights with internalized homophobia for 116 minutes with occasional random tree shots: a movie". truly a wasted opportunity to be something deeper, but nevertheless some representation with occasional visual aesthetics (opera scene was cool!).
