Really loved this film. Keke Palmer and SZA play off of each other really well. Hats off to SZA especially since acting isn’t her primary job. The plot is so simple but it works really well and pays homage to past iconic black movies. This is definitely a movie I would have on DVD for my grandchildren to see.

The movie itself is pretty meh, but as someone who use to be obsessed with spider as a kid, this movie is one of my guilty pleasures :P.

I can’t believe I never watched this movie sooner. I actually really enjoyed the concept and thought the plot was interesting. I appreciate that it’s different from other YA dystopian novels/movies which are basically Hunger Games copy cats. The acting a really good. I wasn’t familiar with the cast except Will Poulter but they all did a great job. Interested in seeing the second part.

Overall, I would say it’s a pretty solid DC movie. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite DC movie in the world but I did enjoy it for the most part. I felt like sometimes the dialogue was awkward at times and the pacing of the movie was a bit strange in the first half. I think the second half was done a lot better in terms of pacing, dialogue, and just the general tone of the movie. I thought Xolo Maridueña played the character every well and loved the Hispanic representation. The movie is a great reminder to never trust white women.
