  Thirteen nominations…? For what?

  Frankly, watching Emilia Pérez for any insight into the trans experience is like watching Fifty Shades of Grey to learn about BDSM.

  The film is riddled with negative stereotypes and myths about the trans community and Mexican culture.

  I’m a bit late to the party on this one. Not just The Wolf of Wall Street, but Martin Scorsese in general.

  This is actually my first Scorsese film, and it’s one hell of an impression. 

  It was fun to see a film so gleefully depraved and committed to its own excess. Even at a neat three hours, it’s so chaotic and hilarious that it’s a breeze.

  The colourful 80’s/90’s aesthetic is just the cherry on top. Though, with that…

  Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears 2020

  If you want to understand how poorly-paced Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears is, just know that they didn’t even air it as a feature film.

  They aired it as a two-part miniseries.

  As with everything Miss Fisher, it’s crowded with solid performances. Essie Davis and Nathan Page still have impressive chemistry, but there’s just no real energy, either in the story or how it’s presented.

  You can tell that Tilse has never directed something this grand before.
