I appreciate the interesting concept and slow, simmering pace. Found it a little hard to really connect with any of the characters, though I also appreciate that they seem more like just regular people. Feels like there were a lot of interesting ways the third act could have branched out differently, too.

Speak No Evil 2024
Less nuance and depth than the original, and does a lot of what would be expected of an American remake, but in this case still gets the point across without the heavy bleakness of the source material.
The two versions actually kind of work as companion pieces to each other, both showing two different yet realistic human reactions to extreme situations, especially ones that start to ramp up from social discomfort to dangerous. At the very least, this was something of a palate cleanser coming right on the heels of watching the original.

Possibly the worst of the several martial arts vanity projects I've seen over the years. Almost utterly incomprehensible, with a lead that can't even sell anything he's supposed to be doing, including constantly finding himself in relationships with women half his age. In some small measure of comfort, at least there weren't any actual sex scenes (but I have a small suspicion that it's because all of the actresses would have, or did say NO).
