This movie suffers a bit in the writing department and I didn’t like the ending, but I think the pacing is fine, wish it was even more of a slow burner to be honest.
The lead actress is fine. Though it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that she was meant to be eye candy, with what little she has to go on, Habel nevertheless delivers a solid, believable performance as a professional who’s just determined to do her job well.…
Truly bad cinematography, editing, writing and direction to an aimless plot peppered with stale and sometimes offensive old jokes.
But then there are a few scenes where the movie kind of, sort of shines - Dreyfuss delivers on his Dreyfussness, a scene here and there comes together nicely and lo and behold - a few gags and jokes are actually funny!
Ultimately, it’s not nearly enough. The wish-fulfilment of Creepy Chase getting with 15 years younger and still beautiful MacDowell is cringeworthy and borderline nauseating; especially knowing what a prick Chase is in real life.
It’s a bad film, despite the laughs.
There’s no point to this movie, and it takes its sweet time to never make it. The disjointed editing stacks scene after scene of meandering nothingness with no discernible through line. All of the characters are shallow and ill-defined; the dialogue is without substance and the plot is nowhere to be found. Most of the time I don’t know what is going on or what anyone wants and above all I couldn’t care less.
Dreadfully dull exploration of two unsympathetic characters and their mostly empty story. Presented at a glacial pace in moody Bleak-O-Vision.
