To start with the good, the movie is beautiful to look at. the cinematography is very crisp and cohesive. the alien language storyline is very interesting and logical. beyond that it was fun to watch and made sense (for the most part).

maybe i dont like found footage movies.....
not a single character in this movie (with the possible exception of marlena) is likeable or relatable in any way.
the way the film is made feels forced to me. it feels unrealistic that there would be someone walking around with a camera for the whole adventure. through helping wounded people, getting attacked, climbing buildings and seeing the world collapse around him, mans just keeps holding on to the camera and ignoting everything else.

The movie felt like it was all style and no substance. The makeup and effects looked great, especially for when it was made, and jeff goldblum did a wonderful job. In contrast the plot was simple, the dialogue was plain, and the ending fell flat for me. The abortion fake out was well executed, but felt like a cop out, especially because they didn't address it for the rest of the film.
