Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World 2003
The very model of a period piece. It's a portrayal of the intricacies of naval strategy, logistics, and human relations immaculately wrapped up as a war drama. Beautiful costuming (something films have sorely lost in the last decade & a half) and attention to detail, particularly in the operation of the ship.
There's a small amount of unrealism used to add excitement & suspense to select scenes that a discerning viewer could groan at, but I find it more than excusable, given…
