she is her and her is me. first watched this a few years ago and it pulled on very specific heartstrings hence the hesitation for a rewatch, but it was instantly one of my favorite movies ever. revisiting it now and all that is still just as true, but maybe more profound and, more layered. such a beautifully harrowing account of escapism and the cinematography is genuinely mindblowing. the sentiment derived is so ineffable that describing this feels reductive so I'll be generic and call it a masterpiece.

Downtown '81 2000
Feels more like a time capsule of the 80s New York art scene than an actual film. But even in saying that this was so frustrating to watch, the dubbing was horrible and most of the dialog is also atrocious. Some of that may be a consequence of the film coming out 20 years after it was filmed so things may have gotten lost in post production but still. I liked the music and Basquiat tho
