Rohmer’s fifth Moral Tale presents a contemplative exploration of the male psyche, in which the protagonist yet again seems to be obsessed with himself. The way Jerome adoringly speaks about his transgressions works as a means to justify them, and consequently there is no coming to terms with his own morality (or rather the lack thereof).
