Probably more of a 3 for how formulaic it is, but it's just an unpretentious and fun modern thriller comedy sci-fi horror thing which excels in neither but at least keeps attention fairly well. The core concept is what is most interesting about the movie.
I'm guessing that's Dennis Quaid or Randy Quaid or whatever his name is' son, dude looks like the guy with the cheeks from Dawson's Creek mixed with some other dude, maybe Andrew Garfield lmao maybe…
I can't really recommend this film unless you're really looking for modern sci-fi regardless of the calibre of the story.
Something is off about the plot or characters, or the execution of the film, but the practical and CGI effects are really good. Visually it's great. High prod value. The movie got significantly better when Ryan Reynolds character became less prominent.

Valuable in that it is an authentic capture of another world, less for its story, in my opinion.
That being said it's not bad at all, and there is a strong sense of cameraderie.

This was really fun to watch in the cinema. I noted the homages to the Shining with the corridor and bathroom, the top-down bed shot in American Beauty, the penultimate scene of the original Carrie, and Roald Dahl's Witches. I'd like to avoid comparisons to the Fly.
