  Insidious: The Last Key 2018

  The most invested I've been in this series since the first film. There are holes to poke throughout (especially in the rushed climax), but between Lin Shaye's dynamite turn and the film's emphasis on tragedy over cheap jump scares, I had a much better time than I'd anticipated.

  The story runs short on gas towards the end, but Sorkin's snappy script and Chastain's fierce-as-shit performance keep the proceedings more engaging than not.

  Mickey Rooney as Puck = one of the most ear-shatteringly irritating characters in cinema history. I'm serious, you'll want to put this little shithead's genitals in a vice twenty minutes in (oh, and this runs about 140 minutes, so have fun, kids).

  But even taking him out of consideration, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is surprisingly hollow. It looks appropriately dreamlike, and, more often than not, the cast has a handle on the text (even Cagney doesn't make a bad Bottom).…
