A possibly vain attempt to get me to actually watch all the damn movies I buy.

That's a damn good western. Denzel Washington should be in more westerns, saying extremely cold shit before you end a man just looks cooler when you're wearing a great hat and have a great moustache while you're doing it.

A solid premise that isn't ruined by being turned into a Richard Curtis romcom, but the less happy movie this was apparently supposed to be probably would have been a lot better. Suffer from being a reasonably sweet romcom about success foiling romance and a meditation about art that don't gel together all that well. The acting is good (I particularly enjoyed a pre-OFMD Joel Fry as the protagonist's stoned out roadie) and Boyle directs it well, but it really cries out for a version of this story that has even a little more edge and venom to it.

This is the greatest movie ever made. The most artistry that a movie that looks like it cost $10 to make can have. Worth watching just for the horse, to say nothing of everything else.

I someone compare this to one of the Showa Godzilla movies and I feel like that's the right point of reference. This is not about the creatures being metaphors for mankind's behavior, it's about them teaming up to fight other monsters in a way that company but in-universe serious at the same time.
Also, it has Dan Stevens performing dental surgery in a giant gorilla while wearing a loud shirt, which is all I really want out of cinema anyway
