Boyhood 2014
I think Linklater's project has been to document the mundane lives, the existential smouldering of slackers and misfits and pseudo philosophical weirdos. This movie, in my opinion, is the most fully realized, naturalistic version of that project. If it's boring at times, so are our lives. If Mason is cringey and immature, so are we. If this movie has no point, neither do most of the moments of our lives. That IS the point. Boyhood, at least, is beautiful in its pointlessness. In my limited one-in-billions experience, this movie feels authentic and sincere and true.
