Indie filmmaker Sean Baker (Tangerine, The Florida Project) is back with perhaps his best film yet. Red Rocket follows a washed-up porn star trying to reboot his life in his Texas hometown. Simon Rex returns out of nowhere in a potential comeback role as the selfish but charming Mikey Saber who tries taking every advantage of the people in his life to get ahead. Red Rocket is wild, raunchy, and quite memorable.

An interesting concept about human cloning. It’s a story about a terminally-ill husband who underwent a procedure to have his clone took over his life. Even though it’s set in a sci-fi world it didn’t distract from the core and it felt authentic and organic. Performance-wise, Ali was phenomenal.

Nightmare Alley is a really great love letter to classic noir and it’s pure Guillermo. Despite it’s length and some sluggish moments, NA is equipped with a dark storyline, exquisite production design and cinematography. It’s thoughtful and hypnotic. Bradley Cooper gives an outstanding performance with the level of raw emotion that comes around is heart-wrenching. Cate Blanchett and the rest of the cast are also brilliant.

The scars of a school shooting weep through a young students actions as she struggles to come to terms with the mental conflict playing out in her mind, with teenage distractions, reactions and inactions all compounding, confusing and amplifying already heightened emotions, devotions and affections. Great performance from Jenna Ortega who delivers a truly believable and sympathetic portrayal of something few of us could ever imagine.
