Even though it was soviet propaganda, especially given the artistic requirements of needing to feature proletarian lifestyles. This is absolutely fascinating from an artistic perspective and even a peak into 1920’s culture.

While the cinematography was exemplary, the final 45 minutes were largely unnecessary and heavily cheapened the entirety of the film with how much the “twist” gets beaten over the viewers’ head. A good editor could have made this much better.
There is simply no air of ambiguity — and suspenseful films want to be married to mystique, don’t rob the viewer of that.
