A movie with an enthralling and haunting scope. Intentionally has me thinking about the American condition. An experience spilling over with intolerance, Protestant hypocrisy, and moral corruption. Explicitly demonstrates how American social identity was built (for better or worse) on the backs of refugees, artists, industrialists, and addicts. A place ripe for victims and perpetrators. Acting was obviously great and so was everything else about it. Lucky to have seen it in 70mm. Will probably exist in the back of my mind for a long time.

Have never laughed so hard before feeling so existentially terrible. Made me more anti-rich people tbh. My one complaint is that no one attached Vanya and his mother. Some of the most punchable faces on film.

A religious experience. Legit walked out of the theater at a loss of words. Was so fully immersed in it that I was shocked when it ended because I didn’t know what else I was going to do with my life. Knocked me on my ass. Planning on when I’m going to see it again.

*only reason I took off half a star is because at times it throws a lot of information at you quickly and expects you to remember, which takes away from the overall argument.

Halfway through the movie I thought “this mans is kinda cool, what if they made him president?”
