When We Were Bullies 2021
Genuinely baffled by the hate on here and I think many ppl seem to be missing the point.
This short doc from the director of The Smell of Burning Ants is the splintered retelling of a classroom bullying incident told from the perspective of the bully & bystanders some 50 years later.
The controversial decision to not interview or contact the victim is precisely the point of the film. It’s a statement on collective guilt and how our actions and their consequences ripple through time in our consciousness.
Really well executed and essayistic in all the most satisfying ways.

Knife Skills 2017
Thematically a deeply flawed work. It answers none of the questions viewers may have, such as: Why a French restaurant? How does classism play a role here with the rich patrons being served by previously incarcerated people of color? The restaurant owner was also deeply unlikeable and clearly performed for the camera.
