I wouldn't say the Creature series was played out so much as not being capitalized on. The premise isn't bad, but too much of the runtime is spent on watching people use sonar or debate the boundaries of scientific discovery. The remaining scraps that suggest a Frankenstein-esque tragedy are the best part for sure.

It worked for me at the time and I still think it holds up nearly a decade later. The true crime elements are absolutely the creepiest part, but I'm also won over on the investigative/mystery component that dictates most of the plot. Can't underestimate the uncanny soundtrack either.

A rather polished rape-revenge flick, almost like a stylized variation of Monster. I'll always wonder what would have happened to that one guy if it weren't for the cat.
